Marilyn M. Bredlow

Marilyn M. Bredlow, 89, of Garner died Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Algona.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday, April 13th at the United Methodist Church in Garner with Rev. Les Green officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Thursday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner and will resume one hour prior to services at the church.

Marilyn Marie Bredlow, the daughter of William “Roy” and Elva “Sally” (Putnam) Railsback, was born May 10, 1928 at Griswold, Iowa. At an early age, she moved with her family to Garner and graduated from Garner High School in 1946. Following high school, she worked at the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Garner as an operator. On March 5, 1950, she was married to Ronald E. Bredlow at the United Methodist Church in Garner. They lived on the family farm six miles southwest of Garner where they raised their family and farmed. In 1967, they moved into Garner. Marilyn was employed at Goodnature’s Store and All Iowa Sales. After Ron passed away in 2003, she continued to live at home for a time before moving to Prairie View Apartments in Garner. In 2014, she became a resident of Good Samaritan Society in Algona. She enjoyed spending time with her family, canning, gardening and playing dominoes in her later years. Marilyn also crocheted afghans for all of her children and grandchildren.

She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, UMW, served as a Sunday school teacher for many years and belonged to the church Bible study.

Marilyn is survived by her four children, Jane (Maynard) Wellik of West Des Moines, Gerry (Jodie) Bredlow of Ankeny, Charles Bredlow of Sun City, AZ and Jill (Steve) Cook of Algona; grandchildren, Michelle (Jay) Henry, Jon (Mindy) Wellik, Dustin Bredlow, Kelly Bredlow, Ashley Bredlow, Katie Bredlow, Courtney Bredlow, Megan Cook, Molly Cook (fiancé, Clayton Henderson) and Emily Cook; six great grandchildren, Kayla Henry, Will Henry, Zane Wellik, Ian Wellik, Raegan Wellik and Callie Bredlow; a brother-in-law, Larry Anderson of Spencer; a sister-in-law, Margie (Bill) Millard of Perry, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ron; an infant granddaughter, Elizabeth Bredlow; brothers, Bob and Dean Railsback; and a sister, Patricia Anderson.
