FOREST CITY - Marilyn Samuelson, 81, of Forest City, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Co-Inurnment with her late husband, David Samuelson, will be held at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 9, 2013.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services, at the church.

Marilyn was born to the late Maynard and Alice Olsen, on September 5, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1949. Marilyn was married to the late David H. Samuelson, on August 28, 1953.

Marilyn worked at Egekvist Bakery in Minneapolis and Pioneer Seed Corn in Algona, was President of the Swea City, Iowa Library Board and was instrumental in creating a new library building, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, leader in the Girl Scouts and Camp Fire Girls, and served with Pastor David Samuelson at several churches throughout the mid-west. She played the great bass fiddle in high school band. A lifetime hobby was fossil hunting with husband, David. The couple traveled to Montana, Greece, several Archeological sites in the mid-west, Rome, personal audience with Pope John Paul II in Vatican City, Ancient Sea Port of Ostia Italy, South Dakota, Yucatan Peninsula, New Mexico, Texas and Instanbul, Turkey.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Paul Samuelson of Lincoln, NE, Karl Samuelson of Minneapolis, MN, Joel Samuelson of Lincoln, NE, Gloria Doyle of Waukee, IA and Laura (Mark Hawks) Samuelson of Urbandale, IA; nine grandchildren, Nichole (Hunter) Flodman, Matthew (Jenna) Samuelson, Andrew Samuelson, Ian Miller, Ingrid Miller, Erin McGohan, Claire McGohan, Adam Hawks, and Jeremy Hawks; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Samuelson, Nolan Samuelson and Alec Flodman; her brothers, Jerry (Muriel) Olsen of Richfield, MN, Paul (Pat) Olsen of Bloomington, MN; son-in-law, Kurt Miller of St. Louis Park, MN; cousins, Alice Naslund and Janet Subject, William, John and James Kallestad, and Jeffrey Optiz; and nieces, Suzy Haeg, Kirsten Jacob, Maria Olsen and Karin Dykstra.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Samuelson; her parents, Maynard and Alice Olsen; her daughter, Cynthia Miller; granddaughter, Hannah Doyle; son-in-law, Brian Doyle; brother, Thomas; aunts, Agnes Olsen and Margaret Olsen; and her cat, Freya.
