GARNER – Mark D. Jass, 51, of Garner died Friday, December 30, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, January 4th at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner with Rev. Brian Lund officiating. Burial will be at Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, 760 W. 8th St., in Garner and will resume one hour prior to services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mark Jass Memorial Fund.
Mark Duane Jass, the son of Alan and Margaret (Pringnitz) Jass, was born May 10, 1965 in Britt. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner. Mark grew up on a farm northwest of Garner until the eighth grade when he moved with his family to the Jass family farm southwest of Garner. Mark graduated from Garner-Hayfield High School in 1983 and Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg with an associate’s degree in feed and fertilizer. On July 9, 1988, he married Beth Juergensen at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farnhamville, Iowa. They lived all their married life on a farm southwest of Garner. Mark was employed as a crop production specialist at Farmer’s Cooperative Society in Garner until September of 2004 when he began working for AgVantage FS west of Garner. Mark was very committed to his customers and was recognized by Growmark for his excellence in service. He enjoyed showing cattle with his daughters, late nights playing cards with his family and participating in a Fantasy Football league. Mark was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Iowa State University fan.
He was a member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Iowa Simmental Association.
Mark is survived by his wife, Beth, of Garner; two daughters, Courtney Jass of Carroll and Kiersten Jass a freshman at Iowa State; his parents, Alan and Margaret Jass of Garner; brother, Steve (Nancy) Jass of Garner; sister, Janell (Mike) Smith of Urbandale; nieces and nephews, Chase Jass, Trey Jass, Zach Smith, Spencer (Eric) Hink, Ryanne (Adam) Connell and Nathan Nedved; many special aunts, uncles and cousins; his father-in-law, Carl Juergensen of Jefferson; two sisters-in-law, Carol (Mike) Christensen of Jefferson and Andrea (Lewis) Nedved of Britt; and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kaylee Jass, May 20, 1994; maternal grandparents, Bernard and Ruth Pringnitz; paternal grandparents, Leo and Vola Jass; mother-in-law, Betty Juergensen; and best friend, Doug Moothart.
