THOMPSON - Marlys J. Mattison, 82, of Thompson died Saturday (September 26, 2009) at her daughter's home in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Thursday at West Prairie Lutheran Church near Leland with Rev. Tim Miller officiating. Burial will be at Linden Township Cemetery southwest of Thompson.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Wednesday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Central Iowa or the West Prairie Lutheran Church.
Marlys Jean Mattison, the daughter of Benjamin and Hazel (Griffin) Wessels, was born July 29, 1927 at Buffalo Center. She attended rural school near her home and Thompson High School. On May 5, 1945 she was married to Harry O. Mattison in Forest City. They lived near Woden until 1949 when they moved to the family farm southwest of Thompson. After Harry passed away in 1996, she continued to live on the farm. Due to ill health she had been living with her daughter, Karen, in Des Moines for the past two years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, baking, cooking and gardening.
She was a member of West Prairie Lutheran Church.
Marlys is survived by her children, Dennis Mattison of Thompson, Mark Mattison of Des Moines, Steven (Sharon) Mattison of Dickinson, TX, Karen Carpenter of Des Moines and Carolyn Volsen of Leland; and three grandchildren, Courtney (Luke) Payton and their two children, Blayze and Jaxson, AOAN Matthew (Jessica) Mattison, US Navy, and their daughter, Chloe, and Haley Volsen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; a still born son, Donal; son, Robert; and granddaughter, Doria Mattison.
