Marlys L. Haugen, age 90 of Leland, died Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City, Iowa.
Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, November 2, 2018 at West Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Leland, Iowa with Dr. Pat Hall of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake officiating.
Visitation will be held on 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, November 1, 2018, at Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St. Forest City, Iowa.
Burial will be at West Prairie Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.
Marlys Langerud Haugen was born March 26, 1928 on a farm near Leland, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Toni Langerud, the youngest of eight sisters and one younger brother. She went to country school and high school in Leland and graduated from Forest City High School. In 1947 she married Truman Haugen and lived on a farm north of Leland.
As a lifetime member of West Prairie Lutheran Church, she loved God, family and home. Singing was a big part of her life, she enjoyed leading the sunbeam choir. Also enjoyed sewing, baking, traveling, her friends and being a farmer’s wife.
She graduated from LaJames Cosmetology College in 1970 and opened Holly-Mar Beauty Salon at her home. For many years she volunteered at the 4-H food stand at the Winnebago County Fair and at the Forest City Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by Truman in 1995, moved to Clear Lake for a short time and then moved to Leland in 2008. She was blessed to have many good friends and neighbors. She also spent many happy times with a special friend, Jim Schaack of Mason City.
Marlys is survived by her son, Neil (Donna) Haugen; daughter, Holly (John) Adams and son, Kim Haugen; grandchildren, Jake (Melissa) Haugen, Jeremy Adams, Gretchen Hengesteg, Angela Haugen, Anthony (Lindsay) Haugen and Cody (Ashley) Dirksen; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Emma, Kaiden, Isaac, Xander, Shyla, Leah and Katelyn.
Marlys will live in the presence of the Lord forever.
