Marvin Reynold Schoneman, the son of Bert and Johannah (Heimendinger) Schoneman, was born June 25, 1917, on a farm north of Britt with his twin brother, Maynard. He attended country school in Hancock County at Orthel Twp. No. 8 west of Britt. In February of 1932, he moved with his family to Garner where he graduated from high school in 1935. Marvin continued his education at AIB in Des Moines. He returned to Garner where he owned and operated the Garner Café with his twin brother, Maynard. He served his country during WW II in the US Marines from 1942 to 1946 and was stationed at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base, Guam and Okinawa. On March 3, 1943, he married Kathleen “Kaye” Foster of Mason City in San Diego, CA. After the war, Marv and Kaye returned to Iowa and owned and operated the Grill Café in Garner. In 1973, Marv obtained his realtor license and in February of 1976 opened Schoneman Realtors with his wife, Kaye and their son, Greg. They later expanded to Clear Lake and Mason City. Marv was very proud to have his son, Greg, and his wife, Paula, daughter, Lisa, and 5 grandsons, Chad, Matt, Brett, Kyle and Cody all part of the firm. He continued in real estate until he was 80 years old. Marv enjoyed fishing, reading, pheasant and deer hunting, trips to Hawaii to visit Pearl Harbor, and visiting with family and friends.
