Mary Joyce Haverly

Mary Joyce Haverly, 93, of Wesley, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025, at Westview Care Center in Britt.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 403 East St. S., Wesley. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Joyce Haverly, the daughter of Roy and Viola (Priester) Kollasch, was born June 25, 1931, on the Hanna ranch near Lu Verne. She was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mary Joyce attended St. Joseph Parochial School and graduated from Wesley High School in 1949. On April 18, 1950, she was married to Kenneth H. Haverly at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Their union lasted 69 years. Kenneth and Mary Joyce lived on a farm east of Wesley where they raised their four children, Dorothy, Barbara, Kathy and Steven. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, embroidering, playing cards and in her younger years, dancing.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley and St. Boniface Catholic Church while in Garner. She sang in the church choir, was a eucharistic minister, belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America and was a 4-H leader.

Mary Joyce is survived by her children, Dorothy Gatton of Belmond, Barbara (Thomas) Navara of Worthington, MN, Kathy Grimsley (Lucky) of Clear Lake, and Steven (Twila) Haverly of Ames; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Haverly of Britt and Gail Kollasch of Colorado; a brother, James (Marla) Kollasch of Newell; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, March 8, 2019; her parents; grandson, Walter Gatton, Jr.; great granddaughter, Macy Renee Gatton; sister, Elizabeth Bode; son-in-law, Walter Gatton; brothers-in-law, Dennis Haverly, Hugh Haverly, and Paul Haverly; and sisters-in-law, Audrey Haverly, infant Jean Marie Haverly, Mary Jane Haverly and Shirley Haverly.
