FOREST CITY - Mary L. Fox, age 78 of Forest City, died Sunday, August 15, 2010 at her home in rural Forest City.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark St in Forest City.
A Private Family Memorial Service will be held.
Mary Lois Graham Fox was born at home in Forest City, Iowa on June 30th 1932. She was the daughter of Harold and Ruth (Ellerson) Graham. Due to the difficult birth, Mary’s mother needed immediate attention from the attending physician, Dr. Vesterburg. To initiate her breathing Mary was rocked and shook by her Grandmother Ellerson.
Mary was baptized in the Old Lutheran Church. Growing up within the church family, she attended Sunday school at The Old Parish House located where Immanuel now stands. She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Mary was a 1950 graduate of Forest City High School.
She enjoyed school, studied hard, and participated in many activities, including working to establish the FCHS School annual. Roller skating and babysitting were favorite pasttimes.
On September 26th, 1951 she was united in marriage to Edgar C. Fox, her schooldays sweetheart and her favorite cowboy. For 59 years the couple resided on a farm ¼ mile North of Forest City. Mary was a wonderful homemaker who cared dearly for her family. She was actively involved in her children’s lives as a 4-H leader.
For many years Mary worked at the Graham Shop. She was a long time MBT employee, serving as a bank teller and Gold Club assistant. Gardening brought incredible joy to Mary’s life. She was a charter member of the “Country Gardeners.” Mary especially enjoyed china painting, recipe collecting and knitting. School children and cancer fund drives have benefited from her hand knit mittens and dish cloths.
Mary encouraged and nurtured the talents of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved going to their many activities and events.
Those grateful in sharing her life include her husband of nearly 59 years; Edgar C. Fox and her children: Rose Mary Nordaas (Harold), Charles Fox, and Jo Anne Sayles (Richard); four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a brother, Thomas Graham (Gerry).
Her parents preceded her in death.
