FOREST CITY - Mary T. Ormsby, age 92, of Forest City, died Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 1, 2010 at St. James Catholic Church in Forest City, with Fr. Dennis Miller officiating.
Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday, October 31st at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark St in Forest City with a Rosary Service at 3:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service at the church.
Mary T. Ormsby was born in Woden, Iowa on February 3, 1918, the daughter of John and Josie (McCroden) Ormsby. She attended school in Wesley, Iowa and graduated from Wesley High School. She moved with her parents and family to Mason City, Iowa.
Mary taught school in Iowa for several years. During World War II, she moved to San Fransisco, California where she took a federal office position.
In 1955, Mary's parents joined her in California. After her father's death in 1961, Mary cared for her mother until her death in 1967.
Mary returned to Iowa and made her home in Garner and Forest City. She passed away at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the age of 92 years.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Kathy Meinecke, Karen Purcell, Joan Losey, Frank Kearney, Mary Berkowitz, Margo Carson, John Ormsby and Kathy Wade. Also surviving are eight great-nieces and great-nephews as well as other cousins and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Joe and James, sister Eileen, an infant sister, nephew Stephen Kearney and good friend Hugh McGuire.
