THOMPSON - Maxine Larson, age 84 of Thompson, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 13, 2008 at Thorne Crest Retirement Center in Albert Lea, MN.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt, IA with Pastor Stan Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson, IA.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, October 17, at the funeral home and an hour prior to service at the church.
Maxine Larson was born on March 9, 1924 on a farm in rural Thompson, IA, the daughter of Archie and Mabel (Beckjordan) Graber. She attended rural school near her home and graduated from Thompson High School. She furthered her education by attending Waldorf Academy in Forest City and received her Teaching Certification.
She taught in rural school in Linden Township. On June 3, 1944, she married Jerome Larson in Chicago, and Maxine worked as a secretary there. In 1945, they moved west of Forest City and farmed. From 1956 to 1961 they lived in San Diego, CA. During this time she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and enjoyed teaching Child Evangelism in her home.
The couple returned to Forest City in 1961 where they continued to farm until retiring in 1983. Maxine was active in the Linden Lutheran Church. Her hobbies included cooking, painting, reading and playing table games. She was a wonderful hostess with the gift of hospitality. For 20 years Maxine and Jerome enjoyed traveling, camping, and spending the winters in Texas.
They moved to Thompson in 1988 and resided there until Jerome entered the nursing home in Albert Lea in 2005.
Maxine made her home at Oak Park Place in Albert Lea. She was briefly hospitalized with pneumonia on October 3rd and passed away at Thorne Crest Retirement Center on October 13, 2008. Maxine will be remembered for her love of God, her husband, her children and all her extended family.
She is survived by four children, Ronald (Karen) Larson of San Antonio, TX, Betty Ann (Roger) Olsen of Thompson, Rev. Wayne Larson of Baltimore, MD and Richard (Faith) Larson of Forest City; grandchildren, David (Marjean) Olsen of Mason City, James (Karen) Olsen of River Falls, WI, and Paula and Mitchell Larson of Forest City and five great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Roger and Robert Graber, both of Forest City, and a sister, Betty Ann Lago of Bradenton, FL and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jerome.
