FOREST CITY - Mildred Hanson, 90, of Forest City, died Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, February 18, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating.

Burial will be in Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM, Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Mildred Thelma Hanson was born December 24, 1922, to Jens and Mattie (Twito) Charlson, on a farm in Hancock County, south of Forest City. She attended Forest City elementary schools and graduated from Forest City High School in 1941. Mildred married Duane Herbert Hanson on July 8, 1942. After her marriage Mildred worked at Saar Produce. In 1957 the couple moved in with her father, following her mother's death. For several years, Mildred worked for "Look Magazine" in their Des Moines office, driving back and forth. When Duane was seriously injured at work, the family moved to Chicago during his recovery. Upon returning to Forest City, Mildred began working for GTE in 1967 in the Forest City office. She retired from the Emmetsburg GTE office in 1985.

Mildred was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed camping and motorhome travel and time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to travel to visit family in California, Florida, Canada and on the East Coast.

Mildred is survived by three grandchildren, Elke Hanson and her partner, Earnest Filby and their son, John of Chardon, OH., Dane (Heidi) Hanson and their children, Luke, Dru, Jacob and Leigh of Williamsburg, VA., Case Hanson of Chardon, OH., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane; son, Lowell; six brothers, Chester, Milton, Melvin, Wilfred, Harold and Reuben Charlson; and three sisters, Ella Guthrie, Margaret Charlson and Rachel Bird.
