FOREST CITY - Oral T. Kingland, age 92 of Forest City, died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at 10:30 AM at Winnebago Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Burial will be at Elim Lutheran Cemetery in rural Fertile. Military Graveside Rites provided by Leland VFW Post 6161.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, February 11 at the funeral home and an hour prior to service at the church.
Oral T. Kingland was born on a farm in rural Forest City, Iowa, the son of Joseph and (Emma) Hanson Kingland. He received his education in rural Mt. Valley schools and at Waldorf Academy in Forest City.
Oral served in the US Army from June 1941 to June 1945, including 550 combat days with the Red Bull Infantry in the African Theater and Italy. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Forest City and on June 10, 1946, he married Alice Holland. The couple farmed in Mt. Valley Township for many years. Besides farming, Oral was a gifted mechanic and welder who enjoyed tinkering around his shop and always helped neighbors with welding jobs. He enjoyed fishing and family vacations.
He was an active member of Winnebago Lutheran Church and has served as President of the Congregation and Sunday School superintendent. In 1996 Oral ìformerlyî retired and he and Alice moved into Forest City. Alice passed away in 2004. Since that time, Oral has made his home at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.
Oral is survived by his four children and their spouses: Judy Belmore (Jon) of Bloomington, MN; Joel Kingland (Elaine) of Forest City; Tom Kingland (Sheryl) of Lake Mills and Mark Kingland (Brenda) of Forest City. Ten surviving grandchildren include Timothy Belmore, Jeff Kingland, Christopher Belmore, Benjamin Kingland, Wendy Kingland, Amy Woodward, Laurie Heidebrink, Allison Beyer-Clausen, Lindsay Langfald and Sara Kingland; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Quinten Kingland (Luverna) of Loveland, CO, two sisters Rachel Holland of Mason City and Emilie Conklin (Allan) of New Brighton, MN; three sisters-in-law, Hilda Barnes of Salem, OR, Geneva Morstad of Forest Lake, MN and Alice Kingland of Forest City.
Oral was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice in 2004, a sister Eva and a brother Kennes.
