FOREST CITY - Ovila M. Metzger, age 93, of Forest City, died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 6, 2009 at 1:30 PM at Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City with Hospice Chaplin James Allard officiating.
Visitation will begin at 12:30 PM on Monday, April 6 until time of the service. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Ovila Mathews was born on November 12, 1915 near Leland, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Helena (Holland) Mathews.
She worked in Forest City, IA for a time before moving to California where she worked in a Defense Plant during the war.
On June 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to Sam Metzger in Las Vegas, NV. Sam passed away on July 22, 1971. Ovila stayed in California for several years working as a chauffeur for a lady there and enjoyed this very much ~ she still talked about that the last years.
Later she moved back Forest City where she made her home and has lived the last three and a half years at the Good Samaritan Care Center.
Ovila is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Inez Norstrud, Lenora Hanson, and three brothers, Martel, Myron, and Vernon Mathews.
Any memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa.
