FOREST CITY ñ Patrick D. VanHooser, age 55 of Forest City died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 while out walking at Pilot Knob State Park near Forest City.



Funeral service will be Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark St in Forest City

with Father Henry Huber officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Saturday, April 18 at the funeral home and continue an hour prior to service.



Patrick D. VanHooser was born in Cresco, Iowa on July 17, 1953, the son of Vern and Alta (Anderson) VanHooser. He received his education in Nora Springs Schools.



On February 4, 1982 he was united in marraige to Sally Ott. The couple lived in several Iowa communities including Mason City, Rudd, Portland and Rockford. They lived for a year in Ft. Collins, Colorado before returning to Iowa, living in Charles City before making Forest City their home for the past 18 years.



Pat loved to socialize with people and enjoyed his Tuesday Night Bowling League. Pilot Knob was a favorite spot for him ~ whether he was walking or running or just enjoying the beauty of being with nature.





He liked spending time with his dogs, driving his '96 Chevy Silverado and he loved Christmas ~ the lights, the gifts, being able to play "Santa" for family and friends and the yearly quest to find the perfect Christmas tree for his family.



Patrick is survived by his wife Sally A. VanHooser of Forest City; four children: Alex (Danielle) VanHooser of Mason City; Shannon VanHooser of Waterloo, IA; Samantha VanHooser of Forest City; and Cassie (Ben) VanHooser-Kliess of Pierre, SD and 10 grandchildren.



He is also survived by his mother, Alta VanHooser of Osage and siblings Carol (Craig) Menenga of Osage; Beverly (Melvin) Weisman of Moravia, IA; Mike (Iva) VanHooser of Nora Springs; Sue (Doug) Warburton of Northwood and many nieces, nephews and cousins.



Patrick was preceded in death by his father, Vern VanHooser.
