Patty Ann Brighton, 68, of Forest City, died Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St. Forest City, Iowa 50436.
Upon her wishes she was cremated and inurnment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Patty Brighton memorial fund in care of the family.
Patty Ann Brighton, daughter of Albert and Dorothy (Branstad) Book, was born March 14, 1949 in Forest City, IA. Patty went to Forest City schools where she also graduated. Patty married Richard Brighton on September 24, 1972. The couple went on to have three children, Teresa, Ann and Lois. Through the years, Patty was a dairy farmer alongside her husband Richard and his parents. During this time, Patty also worked at Winnebago Industries as well as the Bungalow Motor Restaurant and Lodge. Patty later moved to Forest City to help take care of her parents until they passed. Patty was also a member of the Red Cross for 8 years and a member of C.E.R.T from 2008 to 2010. During her time in the Red Cross, Patty assisted during Hurricane Katrina as well as many other natural disasters.
Patty was always the type to go above and beyond for anyone she could. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and the occasional trip to the casino. Patty loved to spend time with her family and friends. You could always find her at the apartment, ready to feed you and listen to anything you had to say. She also loved to bake until the last couple years when she was no longer able to.
Patty is survived by two of her daughters, Ann Brighton (Paul Armstrong) of Buffalo Center and Lois Gordon (Gary Malone) of Mason City; brothers, Lanne (Pat) Book of Klemme, Gary (Pat) Book of Garner, Duane "Snooky" Book of Fertile; sister, Nancy (Roger) Kabe of Peoria, AZ, and brother-in-law, Ricky Brock of Forest City; grandchildren, Andrew (Ambere) Niles of Gilmore City, Courtney Niles of Thompson, Chelsey Armstrong of Thompson, Michael (Miranda) Gordon of Mason City, and Carl Gordon of Mason City; great grandchildren, Axel Niles, Adam Niles and baby Niles on the way, as well as many niece and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law Mary Lou Book; daughter, Teresa Niles, Richard Brighton, and sister, Karen Brock.
