Chanhassen, MN – Philip Marvin Hanson, 70, of Chanhassen, MN passed away on Monday, June 19th, 2017 at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN after a battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be held 3:00 P.M., Saturday, July 1, 2017 at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St. Forest City, Iowa with Rev. Steve Bang officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will start at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Burial of his cremains will take place at Madison Township Cemetery with Military Honors performed by the Forest City American Legion Honor Guard. A reception will follow at the Forest City Senior Citizen Center.
Memorials may be directed to his name in care of the family.
He was born July 4th, 1946, son of Irvin and Pauline Youngquist Hanson, Forest City, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church. He attended Ellington #1 country school, continued and graduated from Forest City High School in 1964. After graduating from Waldorf College, he graduated from Iowa State University in Ames with a teaching degree in Mathematics. He was then drafted into the United States Marines and served in Vietnam.
He worked with his dad and cousin, Larry Lovick in farming 2 years. Phil then attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He worked in the Des Moines, IA before moving to Minnesota. Phil and a friend owned DMS Consulting Group computer business in Minneapolis. He retired and enjoyed working on landscaping, gardening and feeding the birds at his home in Chanhassen, MN. Time was also spent at his cabin in northern Wisconsin.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Everhart of Mason City and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also blessed to have many friends in the Chanhassen area.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents; parents, Irvin and Pauline Hanson, brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Sandra Hanson from Forest City and brother-in-law, Jack Everhart of Mason City.
