Richard E. Hanson, 63, of Forest City died peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City with his family by his side.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Friday, December 12, 2014 at Cataldo Schott Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St, Forest City, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Rodd Hopp officiating. Interment will be held in Madison Township Cemetery with Military Honors performed by the Leland V.F.W. #6161.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Richard Hanson memorial fund in care of the family.
Richard E. Hanson was born December 23, 1950 in Forest City, Iowa, the son of Irvin and Pauline (Youngquist) Hanson. He graduated from Forest City High School in 1970. After high school he was drafted into the United States Army in 1970, where he served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1972. On September 1, 1979 Richard was united in marriage to Sandra K. Hanson in Crystal Lake, Iowa. Richard farmed earlier in life and also worked at the Farmer’s Coop Gas Station before going to work at Winnebago Industries in 1983 where he was currently working till health reasons didn’t allow him to work.
He enjoyed camping, collecting John Deere toy tractors and building dollhouses. His family, friends and neighbors were important to him and his doors were always open. Richard loved his family, but especially loved his grandchildren and the bond he had with each of them. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Richard is survived by his children, Kevin (Mary) Ganseveld of Forest City, John Ganseveld of Garner, Jodi (Dale) Degner of Dysart, IA, Chad (Marcy) Hanson of Forest City and Tanya Droessler of Forest City; fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother, Philip Hanson of Chanhassen, MN; sister, Mary Everhart of Mason City; brother-in-law, Du Wayne (Deb) Hanson of San Antonio, TX and sister-in-law, Rosalyn (Wayne) Berhow of Kanawha and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Sandra in August 2014.
