FOREST CITY ñ R. Wayne (Curly) Kingland, age 76 of rural Forest City, died Monday, October 27, 2008 at the Manly Care Center following a lengthy battle with Alzheimerís disease.



A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Fertile Church of Christ. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, at the church, with the family present.



A general memorial fund has been established.



A private family inurnment will be held at Elim Lutheran Cemetery, west of Fertile.



Richard Wayne Kingland was born on October 17, 1932, the son of Tilden and Evelyn (Field) Kingland. He received his education in rural schools near his home and graduated from Forest City High School in 1950.



On May 19, 1957, he was married to Mary Isabel Graves in Hampton, IA. To this union four children were born, John, Janet, Jeffrey and Jason. He farmed with his wife, until her death in 1965 and continued farming until he became a resident of the Manly Care Center in 2006. During this time, he also worked for other farmers in the area and worked on a road construction crew.



Curly enjoyed being outdoors doing farm work, attending farm auctions, collecting/working on vintage farm equipment and playing cards with friends. He was an avid sports fan and read the newspaper cover to cover daily. Prior to his decline in health, he could often be found discussing farming or the latest sports news at the local coffee shop. He was a member of Hill City Threshers and Pheasants Forever. For several years, he enjoyed sharing old-time farming techniques at threshing demonstrations in rural Forest City.



He is survived by his constant and loving companion for the past 25 years, Judy Valley of Lake Mills and his four children John (Michelle) Kingland of rural Forest City; Janet Kingland of Burley, ID; Jeffrey (Melissa) Kingland of North English, IA and Jason Kingland of Lake Mills. Also surviving are a sister Norma (Paul) Vlieger of Norwalk, IA, and her sons Tim of Norwalk and Phillip (Sonia) of Des Moines, 12 grandchildren: Elise, Emily, Travis, Jennifer, Vanessa, Jacob, Claire, Samuel, Patrick, Erica, Andrew and Kelly, three great-grandchildren, nieces, Debbie (Francis) Kingland-Tomshefski of Danville, PA; Jody Kingland of St. Cloud, MN and nephew Tim Abrahamson of Northwood, IA. and

several members of extended family and long-time friends.



Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary and his brother Donald, 2008.
