GARNER - Robert (Bob) Joseph Dugan, age 51 of Garner, died Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City with his family at his side. His sudden death was the result of a massive brain aneurism that occurred while he was golfing with his friends.
Funeral service will be Monday, August 6, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Leland with Pastor Timothy Miller officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 5 from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home and an hour prior to service at the church.
Bob was born on March 3, 1956 in Oelwein, Iowa to Robert L. Dugan and Joan Shannon-Dugan. He attended grade school at ICA Catholic in Fairbank, middle school at Fairbank Oran, and high school in Fayette, where he graduated in 1974.
In 1976, Bob moved to the Forest City/Garner area when he began his career at Winnebago. At the time of his death, he was a manufacturing engineer in Chassis Weld. Bob also spent many golf seasons as the Course Ranger at The Barn (Gruis Recreation Area).
Bob married Anna Abbott on March 12, 1984. To this union was born Samantha Jo Dugan and Bart James Dugan. The couple divorced in 1995.
Bob enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, going to concerts, and spending time with his friends. He was known for always having a good time ("But, are we having fun?") and for his "words of wisdom." Bob loved life and lived every day to the fullest.
He was an excellent father and his children were very important to him. He loved watching them play sports through high school and was their biggest fan. He was also a great brother, loving son and loyal friend to many.
Bob is survived by his daughter Samantha Jo of Cedar Falls and son Bart James of Leland; mother Joan Shannon and step-father Gerald (Benny) Bates of Oelwein, Iowa; three sisters: Connie (Wayne) Thibault of Scottsdale, Arizona; Judy Gamm and Mark Sears of Gifford, Iowa; Barb Dugan and Scott Rayhons of Ventura, Iowa. Also surviving are nieces Megan Gamm of Odessa, Missouri and Melissa Gamm of Liberty, Missouri; step-mother Ivy Dennler of Elkader, Iowa, special friend Tammy Mary of Garner, and mnay aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
