BRITT - Roger H. Boyken, 81, of Britt, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Titonka with Pastor Robert Wolfert officiating.

Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in rural Titonka with graveside military rites by the American Legion Post 409 of Crystal Lake.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM, Friday, January 18, 2013 at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Roger was born in rural Woden, IA. to Henry and Schwantje (Loeschen) Boyken on April 19, 1931. He was baptized May 14, 1931 and confirmed March 25, 1945 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Titonka where he was a life-long member. He served on church councils and was on the building committee. He attended schools in Woden and Titonka, where he graduated in 1949. Roger served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sargeant. He was a member of American Legion Post 409 in Crystal Lake.

He married Neoma Johnson on December 13, 1959 and they farmed in the Titonka and Woden areas. They had three children, Steven, Darla and Debra.

He retired from farming in the late 1980's. Roger spent the last year of his life at Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City, making many friends with residents and staff, especially his roommate Leslie Anderson.

He is survived by his wife Neoma of Britt; son, Steven (Leann) Boyken of Lakota, IA; daughter, Debra (Bruce) Kamp of Britt, IA; his brother, Duane (Shirley) Boyken of Mesa, AZ; his brother, Dean Boyken of Woden; his sister, Louise (Virgil) Heifner of Woden; his sister-in-law Susan Johnson of Iowa Falls; his brother-in-law, Harold Duane (Lea) Johnson of Alameda, CA; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, along with several close family friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Schwantje Boyken; his in-laws, Harold (Gladys) Johnson; his brother-in-law, Dustin Johnson and his daughter, Darla Kay Boyken.
