BRITT - Rosella Hrubes, 89, of Britt died Saturday (March 8, 2008) at the La Porte City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt with Fr. Henry Huber officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Duncan.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt with a 4 P.M. parish rosary. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Rosella Ethel Hrubes, the daughter of William and Ethel (Johnson) Morris, was born March 31, 1918 at Britt. She attended the rural schools south of Britt and graduated from Britt High School in 1934. She continued her education at Britt Junior College graduating in 1936. Rosella then taught in the rural schools of Erin Township in Hancock County for three years. On November 22, 1939 she was married to Elmer Joseph Hrubes at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan. They farmed north of Garner, Thompson, Duncan, Forest City and for 29 years in the Crystal Lake area. In 1966, they moved into Britt and retired from active farming in 1984. In 1998, Rosella became a resident of the La Porte City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She enjoyed flowers, baking, gardening and working on the farm.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt and the Jolly Circle Club.
She is survived by her son, Marvin (Sue) Hrubes of La Porte City; daughter-in-law, Kathy (Joe) Gibbs of Garner; six grandchildren, Kristi (Todd) Butler, Mike (Julia) Hrubes, Pam Hrubes, Dan (Carol) Hrubes, Melissa (Bob) Oborny and Joe Gibbs, Jr; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer, Sept. 2, 1989; and her son, Roger, March 20, 1975.
