Ruby Janet Rauk, 94, of Forest City, died Monday, December 10, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin, MN surrounded by her daughters.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 28, 2018 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Pastor Rod Hopp officiating.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M., Thursday. December 27, 2018 at Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St. Forest City, and also one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City.
Inurnment of cremains will be held in Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City at a later date.
Ruby was born July 16, 1924, in Thompson, Iowa. She was the daughter of Nick and Josie Lund.
Ruby’s family moved to Forest City in 1942. She graduated from Thompson High School. After graduating, she moved to Des Moines with her sister to attend a Business School.
After living in Des Moines, she moved back to Forest City to work at the Rationing Board. This is where Carlton (Pete) Rauk would come to get stamps for tires and gas. They met and later married on August 10, 1945, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. Pastor Reinertson officiated
They moved to a farm northwest of Forest City where they raised four children. When the children were in school, Ruby began working at Don’s Food Market and then was secretary to the superintendent of Forest City Schools.
She was involved in many of her church and community activities. She was awarded the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame award in 1991 for Winnebago County. Ruby loved being involved in the ground work for the Senior Center.
She lived each day to the fullest and thanked her God for every day. Those left to honor her memory are Diane Rovang (Bob), Pat Formanek (Doug), Pam Hertel and daughter-in-law, Jan Rauk. She was preceded in death by her son, Brian, in 2005 and Carlton (Pete) in 2011.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Ruby has been a blessing to countless people. We cherish her memory. She was very proud of her family and made every one of them feel special.
