Ruth A. Lang, 80, of Garner, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Concord Care Center in Garner.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 21, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with Rev. Scott Kozisek officiating. Inurnment will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.
A memorial visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m., Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Ruth Ann Lang was born on April 13, 1944, to Dent and Mary (Klipping) Church in Britt, Iowa. She attended Hayfield Consolidated School and completed her education at Garner-Hayfield High School, graduating in 1962. On June 15 of the same year, Ruth married John Lang in Long Prairie, Minnesota, and together they raised their family in Kanawha.
Throughout her life, Ruth devoted herself to supporting her family and community. She worked alongside John as a secretary for his business, John’s Farm Service, and later took on roles as a cook for West Hancock Junior High School and the Kanawha Community Home until her retirement. Ruth was also known for her nurturing spirit, caring for many children in the Kanawha area.
In 2004, Ruth and John relocated to Britt. Following the passing of her husband in 2009, she moved to Garner. Ruth had a passion for reading, working on crossword puzzles, cooking, and cherished the time spent socializing over coffee with friends.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner, having previously been a longtime member of Kanawha Lutheran Church.
Ruth is survived by her four children, John (Holly) Lang of Algona, Rod (Amy) Lang of Garner, Hope (John) Wieland of Manly, and Heather (Dan) Lau of Garner; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Joan (Ron) Brown of Mason City, Arlene Church of Ankeny, Carol Jass of Ankeny, Roger (Joyce) Church of Garner, Val (Bob) Formanek of Garner, Laine Church of Des Moines, Sandy (Mike) Randall of Clear Lake, and Steve (Lynn) Church of Vinton as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents; parents-in-law, Gotlieb and Elsie Lang; sister-in-law, Eleanor Halter; and her brother-in-law Daryle Jass.
Ruth will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the loving impact she had on all who knew her.
