Sandra Lou Brunsen, the daughter of Harold and Selma (Haugland) Peterson, was born on December 24, 1945, in Garner. She received her education in Britt where she developed lifelong connections. On August 3, 1963, Sandy married James Brunsen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, a cherished event that marked the beginning of their 61-year life together in Britt, where they made their home. As a devoted homemaker, Sandy also supported her husband by assisting with the bookkeeping for Jim’s freight line business. Sandy’s life was rich with family and community engagement. She cherished spending quality time with her loved ones, eagerly helping her daughter at Mat’s Place and enjoying simple pleasures such as playing cards and bingo, attending garage sales and auctions with Jim, and sharing many delightful moments with friends over coffee. One of her favorite times of the year was Hobo Days each August, where she looked forward to reconnecting with the Hobos in town as they stopped in to visit at her garage sale. Sandy was an avid collector of Precious Moments.
In addition to her family commitments, Sandra was a member of the Britt VFW Auxiliary.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Jim, of Britt; son, Terry (Deserae) Brunsen of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Tammy Lenox of Garner; six grandchildren, Colton and Myles Brunsen, Dillon and Skyler Lenox and Trevor and Paige Hosman; her brother, Larry (Jeanie) Peterson of Garner; brother-in-law, Rob Curley of Webster City; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Connor Brunsen; sister, Colleen Curley; and brother, Pete Peterson.
Sandy will be remembered for her warm spirit, her love for her family and friends, and her enduring contributions to the lives of those around her.
