FOREST CITY - Sharon Kay (Hill) Sprau, age 73 of Forest City, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Willow Pointe Assisted Living in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark Street in Forest City. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon on Friday and continue until time of service.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Meservey Cemetery in Meservey, Iowa.
Sharon Kay Sprau was born on a farm south of Ventura, Iowa on December 29, 1937, the daughter of Virgil and Elsie (Hoyt) Sprau. When Sharon was a year old her father died and she was raised by her mother and grandparents. She received her education in the Ventura school system.
Sharon was united in marriage to John Hill on April 2, 1955. The couple made their home in Forest City where Sharon was a homemaker and cared for her family. They were divorced in 1985.
Sharon worked as a Nurses Aid for six years at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City. After moving to Mason City in 1988, she continued working as a Nurses Aid by providing private in-home care to clients.
She loved animals - horses, dogs and cats. She enjoyed motorcycles, riding her moped and most of all, going shopping. She treasured time spent with her family, friends and her cat, Sassy.
Sharon passed away at Willow Pointe Assisted Living in Mason City on November 1, 2011 at the age of 73 years. She was one of a kind and will be dearly missed by her family.
She is survived by 3 daughters: Roxanne Melby of Mason City, Laurie (Robert) Hill Viaene of Marshall, MN and Carrie (Bruce) Bruckhoff of Forest City; a sister, Kathleen McConkey of Sacramento, CA, eight grandchildren: Jennie Melby, Philip Melby, Jason (Jessica) Bruckhoff, Joshua (Kristen) Bruckhoff, Jenna Bruckhoff & fiancee Ben Roisen, Ryan (Tara) Viaene, Jessica (Shawn) Laleman, Rob Viaene and a great-grandson, Austin.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father Harry Frandsen and her son-in-law Brad Melby.
