Sheryl S. Buren, 85, of Kanawha passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at the Kanawha Community Home.
A memorial visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, July 21, 2023 followed by a time of sharing of memories, at Cataldo Funeral Home, 178 First Ave S.W., Britt. Burial will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.
Sheryl Syrie Buren, the daughter of Everrett and Viola (Erickson) Wicks, was born January 30, 1938, at Clarion. She attended country school and high school at Kanawha and Randall. After high school she moved to Britt and worked at a local restaurant. On October 6, 1956, she was married to Burrell Buren at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City. They lived in Britt where they raised their three daughters. Burrell and Sheryl later divorced. Sheryl was a homemaker for most of her life but also worked at Goodnature’s in Garner, Vi-Mill in Britt and owned “The Cedar Den” antique store. After retiring she moved to Kanawha to be closer to her daughter, Monica, and in 2015 became a resident of Kanawha Community Home. She enjoyed her family, knitting, crocheting and making beautiful cards in calligraphy for family and friends.
She was a member of the Britt Zion Church of the Nazarene.
Sheryl is survived by her two daughters, Melanie Buren of Santa Fe, NM and Monica Abbas of Pleasant Hill, IA; grandchildren, Luke (Heather) Noble of Britt, Valerie (Dan) Umthun of Johnston, IA, Jessica (Matt) Ferring of Ankeny, Jacob Abbas of Duncan and Briana Abbas of Evergreen, CO; two great granddaughters, Chloie and Claire Noble; a brother, Kevin (Trudy) Wicks of Reno, NV; two sisters, Valerie (Ron) Trca of Spokane, WA and Lana (Don) Gray of San Clemente, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Mike Noble; and two sisters, Jan Wicks and Delilah Stewart.
