Virgil Eugene Stahl, born on March 9, 1935, in Hancock County, Iowa, to Lewis and Myra (Schlawin) Stahl, dedicated his life to his family and his passion for farming. He began his journey in agriculture during his youth while attending rural schools southeast of Klemme, graduating from Klemme High School in 1953. Virgil's life took a joyful turn when he met Berniece Ruter at the Belmond Skating Rink. The couple united in marriage on February 5, 1960, and together they raised their sons on a farm near Klemme. Virgil started his farming career by milking cows, and raising hogs, and sheep. He continued to milk cows for over 40 years, retiring from it in the mid-1990s but continued raising beef cattle and a variety of other animals. He welcomed elementary school students to visit the farm and learn about the animals, sharing his knowledge and passion with the younger generation. In 2020, the couple moved to Belmond. Virgil enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching wrestling and westerns on TV.
Virgil is survived by his son, Wayne (Brenda) Stahl of Belmond; three grandchildren, Renee Stahl and her two children, Everett and Gemma, Breanna Stahl and Nathan (Elizabeth) Stahl and their two children, Cassian and Emelia; siblings, Janet, Verlinda, Lewis and Jim; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Berniece, on Jan. 5, 2024; his son, Kenneth; grandson, Joshua Stahl; parents; sister, Judy; and brothers-in-law, Alfred, Lew, Bill and Gilford.
