Vivian M. Sampson

Vivian M. Sampson, 104, of Forest City, died Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 21, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church with Father Paul Lippstock officiating.

A gathering of friends and family will be held one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.

Inurnment will be held at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City.


Vivian M. Sampson the daughter of Jesse and Margaret (Donahue) Otis, was born July 9, 1913 in Forest City, Iowa. Vivian attended the Otis school and went on to graduate from Forest City High School in 1931. Vivian graduated with her teaching degree from Waldorf College in 1933. She was united in marriage to Archie H. Sampson on February 6, 1934. The couple lived in Forest City their entire married lives, this union blessed them with a son, Archie Sampson Jr.

Vivian worked at Harrison’s Variety store for 31 years, she retired in 1983. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Forest City, a former president of the Ladies’ guild, member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Kum Along Club. Vivian enjoyed traveling, playing cards and especially loved working in her garden. She loved the time she spent with her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Vivian is survived by her five grandchildren and their spouses, Scott (Julie) Sampson of Oklahoma City, OK, Kim (Dan) Langfald of Forest City, Stephanie (Deb) Coates of Forest City, Gail (Chuck) Seebeck of Clear Lake and Jostin (Daryl) Heimer of Garner; twelve great grandchildren; twenty-two great great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria Eymann of Kansas City, MO and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Archie; son, Archie Jr.; five siblings and one great-grandchild.
