FOREST CITY - Vivian M. Fox, age 96 of Forest City, died Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, March 4, 2011 at First Congregational Church in Forest City with Pastor Jon Rollefson officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark Street in Forest City and will continue an hour prior to service at the church.
Vivian Mae Fox was born on November 24, 1914 on the A.D. Nelson farm in Mt. Valley Township, Winnebago County, Iowa, the daughter of Cheney and Thressa (Bower) Nelson. She received her education in country school near her home and graduated from Forest City High School in 1933. On August 20, 1934 she was united in marriage to Earl W. "Toad" Fox, Jr. Vivian and Toad had eight children, Beverly, Marsha, Ron, Tom, Mary Jane, John, Clifton and Craig.
Vivian was a busy homemaker, caring for her husband and children. She was a talented seamstress and wonderful cook. She did her own upholstering and worked for Ralph Aulich for a time. When the children were a little older, she began working at Stitchcraft, eventually retiring after 20 years with the company. She liked traveling and visited Hawaii, Bermuda, California and Arizona. She treasured time spent with her family and enjoyed a good card game with her loved ones gathered around the table.
Vivian is surived by her children: Marsha, Ron, Tom, Mary Jane, John, Clifton and Craig; 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Beverly, a granddaughter, Gail, brothers Kenneth, Vernon and Donald Nelson and two sisters, Evelyn Green and Mary Nelson.
